Forum 2: Short(ened) Story

Using Audition

Every week we are tasked to watch videos on how we are to use the softwares to our advantage. While this task has been proven to help in the end, getting there was a challenge. I found my self having to re-watch the videos and then clicking back to the soft ware to make sure I did it correctly. It took me a while to understand how to use the razor tool, but once I had my friend who had taken the class last semester to help me the processed seemed to become more natural. I think if I were to already knew everything then the process would have taken me fifteen minuets to complete. I do not think what we are doing is necessarily hard until you understand and get the hang of each tool and how it is used.

Videos:

While watching some of the videos, I found some to be helpful and some to be why would I need to know this? I really appreciated the video on how to use the razor tool from Mike Russel. Before watching, I attempted to figure out how to use it on my own which wad a confusing mess. I kept on trying to cut the audio while in waveform but was not having any luck. Soon after I watched the video a couple of times I realized I had to be in multitrack in order to do so. While viewing the videos on comparing waveforms and the spectral frequency display, and manually adjusting audio levels, I said to my self after "Why in the world would I ever need this?" I didn't end up using it in my project but can kind of see why a professional were to use it to adjust different background noises and such.

My Project:

For my project, I mainly used the razor tool which allowed me to cut all of the awkward pauses and so unnecessary information that was given. I think that only difficult part about using this tool was making sure I was in multitrack and making sure that i places the razor in the correct place. This required me to repeatedly listen to the section that I wanted to cut. In some places I would cut a section in the beginning out and locate in a different place in the story. Often when I did this I would place it in the track two or three until it was ready to place it in the right stop. I believe that once I looked at the videos repeatedly and got help from friends that I felt like I really liked the software.
